Visual Arts at Lightning Reef Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive program where every student is encouraged to explore, create, and express themselves. Our philosophy is that students learn and achieve more when they enjoy the process, feel safe to experiment, and have opportunities to share their creativity with others.

All students from Foundation to Grade 6 participate in weekly Art lessons in our well-equipped, modern Art Room. Our program follows the Victorian Curriculum and is preparing for the transition to Victorian Curriculum 2.0, with learning organised across four key strands:

• Explore and Express Ideas – drawing inspiration from personal experiences, imagination, and the work of other artists.
• Visual Arts Practices – experimenting with different materials, techniques, and processes, from painting and sculpture to digital design.
• Present and Perform – creating and displaying artworks to communicate ideas to an audience.
• Respond and Interpret – reflecting on artworks from a range of times, cultures, and perspectives, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Students explore a wide range of creative approaches, including drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art. Lessons often connect to cultural, personal, and social themes, encouraging students to express their opinions, beliefs, and identity through their work.

Our school celebrates student creativity by displaying artworks throughout classrooms, corridors, and community spaces. Beyond the classroom, students can join Art Club at lunchtime to further develop their ideas in a relaxed, supportive environment.
