Karen Language at Lightning Reef Primary School

At Lightning Reef Primary School, our Language program is something truly special. Our chosen language is Karen, making us the only school in Australia that explicitly teaches Karen to all students from Foundation to Year 6.

This unique program reflects our strong commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and building connections within our school community.

Students participate in weekly Karen lessons delivered by an experienced teacher and supported by our multicultural aide, who is fluent in the language. Lessons focus on developing speaking, listening and reading, while also exploring the rich culture, traditions, and history of the Karen people.

We are proud to have a large and vibrant Karen community who call Lightning Reef home. Our LOTE program strengthens these community ties and provides all students with:
